10 pieces of the Berlin Wall – the longest segment of the wall outside of Berlin- are standing on the lawn at 5900 Wilshire Boulevard, right in front of the main entrance of LACMA. Those pieces are painted by Thierry Noir, Birmer, Kent Twitchell, Farrah Karapetian and Marie Astrid Gonzales and are part of the Wall Project by the Wende Museum. The museum itself is located in Culver City and educates on the Cold War in Eastern Europe.
Behind the wall: the artists Retna, Herakut and D*Face painted murals on the backside of the wall, which used to face the death strip in East Berlin and therefore had never been painted before.
