On Calle Fuencarral -one of Madrid’s busiest shopping streets- in the hip Malasaña neighborhood is this brand new street food market: Mercado de San Ildefonso. The 18 food stalls on 3 floors offer snacks, street food and typical Spanish tapas. Additionally there’s a bar on each floor and 2 indoor terraces.
I visited at noon shortly after the market opened and picked up an iced coffee and a crepe which were both really good. The market was still mostly empty at this time of the day but it sure gets very crowded in the late afternoon and evening. I choose to sit on the patio on the 2nd floor but the tables by the windows on the 3rd floor seemed like a great spot too.
