Cemitério dos Prazeres is the largest cementery in Lisbon, built in 1833 after a cholera outbreak. It’s located on the west side of Lisbon right at the final stop “Prazeres” of tram No. 28.
Famous Poet Fernando Pessoa was buried there as well as Fado singer Amalia Rodrigues, before their mortal remains were transferred to the Mosteiro dos Jeronimos in Belem (Pessoa) and the Nacional Pantheon (Rodrigues).
At the back of the cementery you’ll have a beautiful view over Alcantara, the Tagus river and the bridge 25 de Abril to the Cristo Rei statue in Almada.
Sights nearby are Mercado de Campo de Ourique, Casa Fernando Pessoa and the Estrela Park and Basilica.
The cementery is open every day from 9-17.
